Repairs

Computer won't power on. Computer powers on but then shuts down after using it awhile. Screen appears garbled. Screen appears blank. Computer is noisy. Computer is hot. Computer beeps more than once at start up. Attached devices stop working properly. These are some signs of component failure. These types of hardware replacements are usually cost effective. Cost will be discussed before any parts are purchased.

Infected?

Pop-ups, strange search results, changed home page, warnings about viruses or optimization, even requests for money can indicate your computer has picked up a virus, hijacker, PUP, rootkit — collectively called malware.

If scanning with your computer's antivirus program does not resolve the issue, call me for a quick, thorough clean-up. Most infections can be cured with a 24-hour visit.

Computer Upgrades For Speed

slow computer

Adding more RAM memory will make almost any computer faster. More RAM allows your computer to function smoothly with more windows open. More RAM could allow you to have your internet browser, office suite, favorite game and email open while downloading updates without slowing down.

Once you are running all those programs, you'll want to upgrade your computer's video card so you can use two or more monitors simultaneously. Imagine having your research on one screen and your document on the next. Your mouse pointer will move across the screens as though they were one. Upgrading your vidoe card has the added bonus of increasing memory — and that means speed!

When a hard disk drive gets close to full, it slows down. Replacing it with a faster, bigger drive will make starting programs and saving files faster. Even computer startup speed can be increased with a better hard drive. Modern traditional drives are bigger and faster than they were just a few years ago. Solid State drives are super fast but cost more per byte than traditional drives. Let your budget decide which is best for you.

bring your laptop power cord

For the best experience laptops, notebooks, tablets, all-in-ones and netbooks should bring their own power cords.

don't bring desktop computer cables

Desktop or tower computers should leave their cables and accessories home — unless we are troubleshooting power issues.

video card, wireless

An upgraded video card can provide better screen resolutions and even allow you to use two monitors simultaneously. A bigger, faster hard disk drive will allow you to store all those pictures and music. Or add a second hard drive just for your music or backup.

You may want to add a wireless networking card now that you have that fast wireless router. Then you can move the computer to the room you really want it in and print to your wireless printer.

Add a DVD player or Blu-Ray drive to enjoy movies on your computer. Make that DVD a multidrive and you'll be burning music CDs and videos in no time.
